New services to improve life in camps

Bitter suffering haunts families in northern Syria due to the deterioration of the infrastructure inside the camps therefore a major project was launched based on improving hygiene with the aim of alleviating the burdens of the displaced, especially in light of the acceleration of the spread of Covid-19.

The project aims to alleviate the burdens on the beneficiaries and to provide a safe, healthy, and stable environment. Based on the latest update, the number of beneficiaries of these services reached 21,319 individuals (3,678 families). The project is planned to cover the following camps: Nahnu Ummah, Al-Nuri, Madinat Teiba, Abna Hama, AlMalab (Kafr Daryan), Alfurat, Umm Jalal, WATAN Model camp 2, Al-Faraja, and Kafr Daryan town and provide the following services:

1- Supplying sterilized water through tanks.

2- Removal of solid waste.

3- Removal of sewage pits

4- Distributing baskets to improve personal hygiene.

5- Periodic health awareness campaigns.

6- Distribution of garbage containers.

7- Building blocks bathrooms including ones for people with special needs.

8- Contracting workers to clean the bathroom blocks on a daily basis.

9- Paving roads

10- Implementation of sewage lines with fermentation pits to convert sewage water into water suitable for irrigation.

11- Preparing wells, constructing reservoirs, implementing water networks, electric generators, and a solar energy system to operate the wells.

 

The project was launched at the beginning of this year and continues to be implemented. In November 2021, the following was done:

– The Completion of the implementation of sewage lines in the camps of Al-Malab, Al-Furat, Umm Jalal, Al-Faraja, and Kafr Daryan town.

– Health awareness sessions beneficiaries by the end of October had reached 1419, benefiting from 148 sessions.

-The implementation of solar panels for wells in each of the camps of Al-Nouri, Taiba, Nahnu Ummah, and the town of Kafr Daryan and levelling the floors for building the bases of the panels continued with a completion rate of 98% and the testing phase started.

– Completing the extension of water networks in all camps mentioned with a completion rate of 100%

– Completing the extension of sewage networks in all camps mentioned with a completion rate of 100%

– Paving roads in the targeted camps with a completion rate of 45%

-Conducting tests to select operators for the stations in the camps where the solar panels have been active.

 

 

The aims of the project are:

1- Promoting personal hygiene by providing sterile water, removing waste, and reducing the spread of diseases and epidemics.

2- Supporting families with low income, widows and people with special needs, and alleviating their financial burdens.

3- Safe disposal of solid waste in camps by transferring it.

4- Establishing a sewage network to expand the network and target a larger number of beneficiaries.
